It is November, and we are waiting for 2009 and summer and the month of June and July to go north
to embark on the Saint Joe River canoe trip. In Houston we are experiencing a rare snow fall.
But finally, it is time to load up and begin the journey north, away from the Houston heat and humidity, to where temperatures are, say more temperate, or does that sound redundant? So the car is loaded with two canoes, camping gear and all sorts of things that may be needed.
The canoe on the trailer is the 16'4" Pelican and the canoe on top of the car is a 14'0" Old Town Rockport which was purchased here for about $80.00 less than the cost in Indiana. Off we go, from Texas to Arkansas.
In Little Rock we cross the Arkansas River, just begging to be canoed sometime in the future,
but then into Mississippi for a short stretch, Missouri and crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois, another river just begging to be canoed, as it was by Fr. Marquette about 400 years ago.
Then it was time to stop for a rest so the next photo is somewhere on Hwy 55 in southern Illinois on the "Trail of Tears". Now, please don't laugh, but sitting there between the 18 wheelers we sort of felt like a little
Chihuahua running with the big dogs.
Eventually we get into Indiana, and had to drive by the Subaru plant, so the car could connect to its roots.
